I actually found the Spanish stuff in the episode kind of annoying. It was weird that Mrs. Parker had to translate nearly everything she said in Spanish, even though she’s lived with her family ever since they became her family.
I also really love Mrs. Parker. I thought from the very beginning that her voice was wonderful, and I noticed that she has really good chemistry with the new Whit. She is the classic mom, apart from the Hispanic background, which isn’t all bad.
Totally agree about Olivia. It really bothers me that her actress is an adult. She is way too whiny-sounding, and, maybe it’s just bad writing, but none of her lines are ever very funny.
I didn’t think that this episode was that much at all like Treasures of the Heart. I didn’t think about that at all until I saw people talking about it afterwards. That episode had a much different aspect to it that made it much different from this episode. There wasn’t even much of a “where your treasure is” spiritual application from the episode.
Connie’s episode was The ‘No’ Factor. You’re welcome.
Red didn’t meet my expectations either. He doesn’t replace Bernard in my heart by any means, as I suppose he was meant to. He has some funny lines, but I don’t think they fit his voice like they would Bernard’s.
There was an okay lesson throughout the episode, but it was more practical and material than spiritual. I didn’t personally take the episode as a teaching episode, but more as an entertainment episode.
I really liked all the chemistry among the parents and Matthew. The actors fit together so well. Camilla and Olivia are a different story, but I won’t go off on that rant.
Overall, this was a pretty enjoyable episode, but I disagree that it was better than The Inspiration Station. That one had a deeper meaning, I think, and though it may not have had as much humor, I liked it more because of its more spiritual applications. It also gave a fairly good introduction for Andre Stojka as Whit. Clutter didn’t use him nearly as much.
I’ll be interested to hear your review of Game for a Mystery, because that was one of, if not my least favorite episode of Album 51.

I can appreciate that they're trying to bring something new to this family aka. Mrs Parker's hispanic background. I can also appreciate that since AIO has a largely english-speaking audience, they can't have the mom, or any of the parkers, go off into a spanish monologue without taking up valuable time to translate all of it. I am annoyed however, that her husband needs her to translate even the simplest of phrases. Come on man, you've been married for how long to this woman and you still need help with "bueno"?? Make an effort already!
I agree with you about Matthew - I think he's a great kid character, and the actor does well with him. He definitely "feels" more like a kid from the older episodes. If i heard him in one of the earlier albums, I wouldn't feel like he was out of place. Can't say the same for Olivia unfortunately :S I think we saw some of Camilla's potential in "For the birds", but haven't really heard good stuff from her since.
Overall I am still a bit undecided as to how I feel the last few albums have been. I do like reading and hearing your reviews, so keep up the good work!
I'm really surprised that you liked this one, Dave. But you actually like this show better than I do! I'm also really surprised you didn't compare Odyssey to "Dora the Explorer." :D I do disagree with you about Red. He's my second favorite new character and I'd really like for the writers to put him in more shows.

Christian: I actually like that "Clutter" didn't use Whit much. I like being eased into the new actor for Whit, rather than hearing him as one of the main characters for every episode. And I've always been of the belief that most AIO episodes should not be exclusively a teaching episode or an entertainment episode, but be both entertaining and spiritually educational.
Kendra: I think "Grandma's Visit" did a much better job of incorporating Spanish into the episode than "Clutter" did (and interestingly, in "Grandma's Visit" we actually sort of did get an untranslated Spanish monologue in terms of Lucia's phone call in Spanish). I also agree that Matthew is a nice addition to the collection of AIO kid characters--that's an interesting point that he'd fit in well with some of the older characters. Thanks for the thoughts!
Austin: Dora the Explorer is founded on the idea that it's supposed to educate children. If they do it heavy-handedly, all the better! AIO is very different. But maybe I'll make comparisons to Dora when I talk about "Grandma's Visit." :-) And Red is about as annoying as Emily, IMO. So we're in total disagreement on that character. :-P
